songs to cry in the bath to

We all have those moments where we just want to wallow in self-pity. We want to recreate that iconic scene in Bridget Jones as she sings along to All By Myself. We want to crack open a lonely bottle of wine, put on Titanic, eat some chocolate and have some completely gratuitous, egotistical, misery. And, let’s not lie, it’s really fun.

A couple of friends and I have recently developed ‘Fake-Up’ nights for this very reason. If there’s any silver lining in big dramatic break ups it’s the night you have with your friends afterwards, watching soppy romances, eating your body weight in Ben and Jerrys, getting drunk off cheap wine and engaging in a bit of casual ‘ex-bashing’. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) no one has had a big dramatic break up, but we’ve decided not to let that get in the way of our self-indulgent nights of gluttonous misery. Fake-up nights are here to stay and I strongly urge you, dear reader, to adopt them.

The best place, I find, to be indulgently miserable is the bath. Get some bubbles in there, maybe a sickly sweet Lush bath bomb, a glass of wine, and have a great time of solo-sadness. The thing that I feel makes these sessions is the soundtrack. You need a playlist, the ultimate playlist of power ballads to sing/shout along to, irritating housemates far-and-wide. But this playlist, what would it be, where could I find it, what would it contain? Have no fear, for I have pre-prepared the ultimate fake-up/bath cry playlist. It has highs, it has lows, it has a lot of 80s cheese, and here I present it to you in its full glory. Run that bath, remember that boy who never texted back when you were 13, sit back, and enjoy:
