As you can tell from the title, and subsequent imagery, I am in California! We arrived in Palm Springs Sunday afternoon and headed straight to our hotel, Arrive. I’m here with my mum driving from Palm Springs up to San Fransisco over the next couple weeks – full road trip vibes to be expected.
For starters, we’re in Palm Springs for a couple days – headed to LA in the morning. Palm Springs is a funny ol’ place – we showed up Sunday expecting to relax by the pool only to find a full on pool party in swing. You spend most of the two hours down from L.A. driving through desert, and all of a sudden the greenery of Palm Springs emerges almost out of nowhere. The city is beautiful in it’s own special way – lots of art deco, 70s style buildings littering the main streets with quirky boutiques on every corner. We headed to the famous Cheeky’s for a lovely brunch yesterday, and Lulu’s this morning (we tried to go to Cheeky’s again because I am nothing if not a creature of habit, but didn’t realise it was closed Tuesdays). Yesterday we spent the afternoon at a massive outlet mall, and this afternoon we’re headed into Joshua Tree National Park to do a little exploring.
We’re staying at Arrive hotel which is probably the coolest hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and also the cocktails are banging. The rooms are a great size, and they have a coffee shop, ice cream parlour and restaurant all on site which is handy for those early morning coffee runs since we’re awake around 5am because of jet lag. I don’t think there’s a shortage of cool hotels in the area – I almost wish we could stay at a few different ones, but I remember seeing a lot of pictures of Arrive during Coachella and it looked perfectly laid back – random pool parties included. Me and my mother aren’t afraid to join in on the bevs.

I thought it would be fun to mix lifestyle and fashion for some of my California posts, hence the variety of pictures and outfits and road signs. Let me know if you like it – there will definitely be some solo outfit posts coming your way too.
I’m such a sucker for taking on where I am into my style – always switching to my scandi side when I’m in Denmark, something slightly edgier for London and I’ve packed lots of denim and cotton bits for my time here in California. I’d love to pretend I’m some kind of style chameleon but I think a lot of it has to do with blending in – I’ve never been eccentric in my taste, and I don’t always feel comfortable standing out too much in a crowd. I think half of being well dressed is being comfortable in what you’re wearing – and I don’t mean comfort in a tracksuit and lounge wear kind of way, but in the way that just makes you feel good. Having good style and being well dressed isn’t always about standing out from everyone else – usually it’s about being confident in what you’ve got on.
That being said, I did definitely get some looks in this puffy bright red dress at 8am but it felt appropriate for the whacky vibe down here. I want to get as many wears out of this little number before I head back to the cold since I only picked it up around a month ago. You can shop all my bits and bobs at the end of the post!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with a swimming pool and some ice cream. Definition of living my best life. You can keep up with my adventures on my instagram!
