As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realise that Christmas day is really about spending time with your family drinking wine, playing scrabble and watching The Snowman. Gifts are simply an added bonus to show how much someone means to you. While I love to give gifts and adore the way people faces light up when receiving them, I really don’t want to spend £300 on something that, in a day or two, will be reduced to half price in the Boxing Day sales. I may sound Scrooge-y, but when you have little money coming in, counting the pennies really does matter. So this December Five is dedicated to gifting, and the best bargains I think a loved one would appreciate…

  1. The Purple Pyjamas

Is there anything more luxurious than silk pyjamas? Taking answers on postcards! The answer is no, though. There isn’t. This Iris and Ink set is a cotton and silk blend in the most gorgeous Violet purple, retailing at £160. This Outnet own brand creates gorgeous quality staples for your wardrobe at an extremely decent price. Pyjamas are a fail safe gift, and as they’ll be used all year round it’s worth investing a little more for a pair that will last. Wrap these up and pop them underneath the tree for your Mother, friend, girlfriend, wife, sister or even your grandmother!

2) The LBD 2.0

I doubt you’ll be surprised to hear that one of my favourite brands of the moment are Rixo. I say this because every female who works in fashion holds the girls behind Rixo with such high regard. Henrietta and Orlagh launched Rixo in 2015, and have gone from strength to strength with their whimsical, 70’s-inspired brand. If it weren’t already triumphant enough, now even the high street has latched on to their success by creating almost identical garments at a much more affordable price. While this emulates their immense success, the quality of said high-street copies are nothing on that of the real Rixo garms. So, this Christmas, use the sales to invest in the OG’s. Their Bambi dress is the perfect update on the LBD, and a truly special gift for any fashion lover. Everything about this dress screams Christmas: playful, velvet and sequin. And, for £193 (down from £275), you’re saving a swell amount.

3) Secret Santa

Have you ever been given Auntie Rita’s third cousin once removed for Secret Santa? I have. Got a budget of £10? Fear not. I’ve found the perfect secret santa gift. FYI – slogan ‘football’ scarves were all over the catwalk for this season (Henry Holland, Ports 1961, Loewe..) and these Topshop scarves are the high street equivalent at an absolute barg. A crowd pleaser that won’t break the bank – surely this is what Christmas is all about?

4) Ear Candy

Earrings can be super difficult to buy for people, as everyone has varying tastes (and some don’t even have their ears pierced!) However, I believe a fail-safe pair for all would be these beauties from Tory Burch. Originally £84.99, now £59.49, they would be a real treat for that special someone in your life. These are perf for special occasions, and when they wear them, your generosity will be remembered.

5) Beauty Queen

My final gift recommendation is an indulgent one, but I can’t recommend a gift set more highly. The Wild Source Apothecary use ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients and don’t use fillers or bulking agents in ANY of their products. I’ve been using the Ultimate Rituals kit for just over a week now, and have seen a massive change in my skin. It looks totally rejuvenated and is oh, so soft to touch! The kit includes four of their facial products, plus a gorgeous radiance mask, a muslin cloth and a jade stone facial massager – it’s the full package for your skincare-obsessed bestie. If you aren’t willing to part with £100 for the full set, I’d recommend the Night Nectar or the Radiance Mask. They smell incredible and leave you feeling relaxed, with your skin feeling supple.
